Kristina Kreutzer

Dr. Kristina A. Kreutzer, age 52, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2017 after a courageous battle against cancer. Krissy was born in Washington, DC, the daughter of William J. Sr and Kathleen C. Kreutzer. She was a graduate of the University of Maryland earning her B.S. degree in Chemistry and obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, after which she went to work in DuPont Central Research and Development at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware. Krissy was a prolific inventor with 21 US Patents on subjects including production of nylon intermediates, improving performance of Li ion batteries, producing bio-based monomers for polyesters, and olefin polymerization. But science was only one of many passions for Krissy. She studied Kenpo Karate, achieving the rank of 3rd degree Black Belt, and joined the Mill Creek Fire Company in 2000 becoming an active volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician, rising to rank of Deputy Fire Chief at the time of her passing. In addition, Krissy was an Assistant Chief with the DuPont Experimental Station’s Emergency Response Team. She was an Instructor for the Delaware State Fire School and a member of the New Castle County, the Delaware State and the Delaware Valley Fire Chiefs Associations, and the National Rifle Association. Krissy’s passion for chemical safety led her into the world of Hazardous Materials Response. She became internationally known for her skills and expertise in both firefighting and hazmat response and published, made presentations, and taught courses at national and international conferences. Krissy was predeceased by her father William J. Kreutzer Sr. She is survived by her mother, Kathleen C. (Novel) Kreutzer, her sister Karen L. Checho (Thomas J.), her brothers William J. Kreutzer Jr and Gregory A. Kreutzer, her nieces Heather Checho and Lauren Checho, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and her care-givers Ronald J. McKinney and Mark A. Dolan, her companion. Funeral service will be on Saturday March 25th, 2017 at the Mill Creek Fire Company Chambers Memorial Hall located at 3900 Kirkwood Highway, Marshallton, Delaware 19808. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM. Funeral procession will follow memorial service. Rite of Committal will be private.
