March 19, 2015 – At 1:55 AM Mill Creek Fire Company was dispatched to a residential fire in the unit block of Merrimor Court in the Highland West community just off of McKennans Church Road.    The original dispatch also included Hockessin and Cranston Heights Fire Company.    Firefighters arrived within minutes of the dispatch and found a house with heavy fire showing.   The fire was quickly upgraded to include Elsmere, Minquas, Belvedere, Five Points, Wilmington Manor.  Additional fire companies were brought into the Mill Creek Fire Company and surrounding districts for cover up assignments.   Firefighters battled heavy fire and smoke conditions throughout the structure.   Fire engulfed the roof area of the garage and extended to the second floor of the home.   Four occupants in the home were able to quickly evacuate the structure without any injury.   Over 75 firefighters fought the blaze for three hours before it was officially placed under control.  The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.  No firefighters were injured and the last unit left the scene at 6:00 AM.
