MVC, Overturned Vehicle with Fire - Mill Creek Rd

Thursday, July 16, 2015

On May 27, 2013, at approximately 2:15 am, Mill Creek Fire Company was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Mill Creek Road between Dandenog Drive and Riblett Lane.  The vehicle was reported overturned with electrical wires down and trees on fire.  Upon arrival firefighters found a vehicle on its side with 34,000 volt electrical lines energized on the ground.  The vehicle was fully involved with fire along with surrounding trees and shrubbery.   For the safety of the firefighters, firefighting efforts were delayed until Delmarva Power could turn off power to the down lines.  The occupant of the overturned vehicle was able to escape from the car prior to the arrival of firefighters.  Mill Creek Fire Company was assisted by Hockessin Fire Company.  New Castle County Police are investigating the cause of the crash.   Mill Creek Road was closed for a number of hours while the power company restored electricity to the area and repaired the damaged utility pole.
