January 16, 2013 - Mill Creek Fire Comany and surrounding fire companies were dispatched to a house fire in the 3800 Block of Evelyn Drive in Dunlinden Acres at approximately 1:48 PM. As firefighters from Mill Creek pulled up to the house, smoke started to pour from the dwelling. Firefighters made access to the home and found the kitchen area involved with fire. A quick knockdown brought the fire under control although there was heavy smoke damage throughout the dwelling. One person was in the home when a smoke detector activated. The individual ran to a neighbor's home where 911 was called. There were no injuries to firefighters or the resident. The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire. Units were on the scene for a little over an hour checking for hot spots and clearing the house of smoke.
Here is a prime example where a working smoke detector warned the home's occupant of a fire. We encourage all residents to check their smoke detectors regularly to make sure they are operating properly. If you need a smoke detector please visit your local fire company for a free unit.
