On October 2, 2012 at approximately 9:50 AM multiple fire companies were notified with Mill Creek Fire Company of a building fire at Red Clay Creek Apartments. This is the same location of an arson fire just three weeks ago where a building nearby was heavily damaged by fire. Belvedere Fire Company arrived first and reported fire showing. The fire was quickly escalated to a working multi-residential fire. A second alarm was sounded a short time later. The fire was declared under control at 11:30 AM.
The fire back on September 12 was started in a vacant building. This fire was in an occupied building with five adults. All occupants safely evacuated the building. The building sustained heavy damaged. The residents were being assisted by the American Red Cross and the New Castle County Office of Emergency Services.
The alarm brought in mutual assistance from Belvedere, Cranston Heights, Elsmere, Minquas, Five Points, Hockessin, Christiana, Aetna, Delaware City, Minquadale, Wilmington Manor and Goodwill Fire Companies. Over 60 firefighters responded to the alarm. There were no reports of any firefighter injuries.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an investigation on the exact cause of the fire.
