September 12, 2012 - At approximately 11:09 PM New Castle County Fireboard dispatched Mill Creek Fire Company, Cranston Heights Fire Company and Belvedere Fire Company to a multi-family structure fire at 2148 Grafton Drive, Red Clay Apartments. Within a couple of minutes of dispatch the alarm was upgraded to a working structure fire as units were responding to the alarm. First arriving fire apparatus reported the building fully involved with fire.
Additional firefighters were summoned from Elsmere Fire Company, Minquas Fire Company and Five Points Fire Company bringing the total to around 60 firefighters battling the blaze. There were no report of injuries. The fire was declared under control around 1:00 AM. Firefighters remained on the scene until 2:00 AM.
The Delaware State Fire Marhal's office is determining the cause of the fire. The two story building is divided into three sections with four apartments in each section. No one was living in the building since it has been vacant for the past two years.
