January 9, 2012 – Longtime volunteer Ted Work, Jr. received the Fire Policeman of the Year award from the New Castle County Police during a ceremony at Delaware City Fire Company. This prestigious award is given to a volunteer firefighter who serves as a fire police officer for their particular fire station. Ted has been a member of Mill Creek Fire Company since 1969. His father was also a member of the fire company.
Fire police officers play an important role during emergency situations especially controlling the flow of traffic around a motor vehicle crash or fire scene. They protect the public from dangers of an emergency and to protect the firefighters working on busy highways.
Ted has received many other awards at Mill Creek including Top Responder in 2009 and 2010. Congratulations to Ted for your dedicated service.
