House Fire - Heritage Park - Milltown Area

On March 18, 2011 at 4:51 PM Mill Creek Fire Company was dispatched to a house fire in the 2600 Block of Stephenson Drive, Heritage Park. As fire apparatus were responding to the alarm a large column of black smoke could be seen three miles away. A New Castle County paramedic unit arrived on the scene within a couple minutes of the dispatch and reported fire showing from the structure. The alarm was upgraded to a working alarm with additional fire companies being dispatched to assist. The fire destroyed the garage, an automobile and caused fire and smoke damage throughout the rest of the home. The two adult occupants were able to escape the fire without any injuries. Approximately 40 firefighters battled the blaze for about 45 minutes before the fire was brought under control. No firefighters were injuried and the scene was cleared at 7:00 PM. Firefighters from Cranston Heights, Elsmere, Belvedere, Hockessin assisted Mill Creek along with EMS personnel from Minquas and New Castle County Paramedics. The State Fire Marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.
