Pike Creek Valley – On May 12, 2024, at 9:11 AM Mill Creek Fire Company along with mutual aid stations were alerted to a residential structure fire in the unit block of Winding Hill Drive, Mendenhall Village. An EMS unit nearby responded to the alarm within a minute and reported heavy smoke pouring from the house.
Approximately 30 firefighters battled the blaze. Two dogs were rescued from the smoke-filled home. Unfortunately, one dog passed away and the other was transported by ambulance to a local animal hospital. No one was home at the time of the blaze and no other injuries were reported. The fire was declared under control at 9:57 AM.
Mill Creek was assisted at the scene by Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, Christiana Fire Company, Cranston Heights Fire Company, Elsmere Fire Company, Hockessin Fire Company, New Castle County Paramedics and New Castle County Police. Regional coverage was provided by Claymont Fire Company, Five Points Fire Company, and Kennett Square Fire Company (PA).
The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
