March 17, 2024 – Mill Creek Fire Company and mutual aid stations were dispatched at 5:14 PM to a residential structure fire in the 1100 block of Elderon Drive in the Arundel community. Mill Creek units arrived on the scene with fire showing from the first floor of the two-story single family structure. Elsmere, Hockessin, Five Points, Cristiana, Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, Cranston Heights and Minquas Fire Companies responded to the scene.
Deputy Fire Chief Joe Stewart assumed Incident Commander (IC). Firefighters quickly advanced handlines in the structure and were able to knock the bulk of the fire down in a short period of time. Crews check the attic and basement for fire extension with negative results. A neighbor’s home was damaged due to the extreme heat from the fire.
The incident was placed under control at 5:53 PM with all units working. Talleyville and Minquadale Fire Companies covered fire stations in the area. The New Castle County Police along with the New Castle Couty Paramedics responded to the scene. Delmarva Power was also notified.
Approximately 35 firefighters battled the blaze and no injuries were reported. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office was on the scene investigating the cause of the fire. All units cleared at 7:07 PM.
