July 29, 2022 – At 9:49 PM Mill Creek Fire Company along with area fire companies were alerted to a house on fire in the Limestone Hills community just off Stoney Batter Road in Pike Creek Valley. As firefighters arrived, they found the house heavily engulfed in fire with exposure to a neighboring house.

Over fifty firefighters from Newark (Aetna), Belvedere, Christiana, Cranston Heights, Elsmere, Five Points, Hockessin, Newport (Minquas) and Avondale (PA) responded to the call. The New Castle County Paramedics were on the scene. Cover up assignments for fire and EMS came from Goodwill, Brandywine Hundred, Claymont, and multiple Pennsylvania fire companies.

At 10:08 PM a second alarm was initiated bringing in additional resources. Two firefighters were rushed to the Christiana Hospital. One firefighter was released later that evening and the other was admitted to the hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest at the fire scene.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
