March 25, 2018 – At 4:42 hours the Mill Creek Fire Company and neighboring fire stations were dispatched to a commercial structure fire in the 3600 block of Kirkwood Highway (Rt. 2). Upon arrival to the scene flames were seen coming from the roof of the single story strip shopping center.
Firefighters deployed handlines into the structure and on the roof to douse the fire. Approximately 30 firefighters were at the scene along with paramedics from New Castle County. No injuries were reported. The fire was placed under control in 30 minutes. Kirkwood Highway east bound from Duncan Road to Greenbank Road was closed during the alarm.
Mill Creek Fire Company was assisted by Belvedere, Elsmere, Minquas, Cranston Heights, Five Points and Christiana Fire Companies and BLS crew from Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
